This is Keshia, Founder of Souls Between Stars. Sharing some insight on the Art of Tarot:
“So, how exactly does tarot work?!”
Let me break it down!
There are 78 cards in a tarot deck, consisting of four suites: Pentacles, Cups, Swords and Wands. Each suite represents a different energetic aspect of life that we are continually moving through in intricate cycles. Pentacles is the most earthly energy and typically governs aspects such as career, financial security and material stability. Cups govern our heart energy and represents how we experience and manifest emotional bonds, love and our deepest feelings. Swords is all about communication and how we express ourselves and it often shows us the tensions or conflicts we face while trying to cut through illusion and into the truth of any matter. Wands represent our highest minds and aspirations, long term life goals and visions. Each suite is numbered Ace through Ten. Aces are always brand new beginnings and Tens are always completion and each number in between lets us know where in the spectrum you are within that particular energy.
Each suite has four Court Cards (Page, Knight, King and Queen) which are the ones where fortune tellers are usually able to say they see an “older man in your future” or maybe a “younger female in your past.” They are the ones that typically describe literal people in our lives, including even ourselves. The suite that the court card resides in helps me to understand the personalities, traits and characteristics.
Last but not at all least, there are 22 Major Arcana cards, which signify significant and spiritual turning points or lessons that we will all encounter on the journey of life. Some people pull none of these cards in their reading, letting me know that currently things are moving along slowly and steadily. If someone has 3 or more, I can be sure they are going through some major life changes!
Now, in each reading the cards are pulled into what is called a spread! In my written reports I use a 5 card spread. First card representing current situation. Second, past influence. Third, future influence. Fourth, root cause or challenge. Fifth, best outcome or advice. When we take these all these cards with very unique and individual meanings and place them in a spread….a very clear story begins to emerge, that I then relay to you using my depth of knowledge about the cards, compassion (because I'm sure I've been there as well!) and intuition. It really is powerful stuff. What will your story say?
