What are your morning rituals to cultivate beauty and grace?
I have three small children, so I usually wake up with at least one snuggled between my husband and I. I always take a moment to soak in their peaceful sleeping face and soft, tender skin. I love starting my morning with gratitude- I think it shines as beauty from the inside out. I don’t feel quite awake without a hot & cold shower, and then slathering my skin with Pura’s Cocoa & Rose Body Oil, Lolita Face Drops and Neroli Eye Ritual. Deeply hydrated and protected skin just feels so good.
What nutrients keep up radiant from the inside out?
In our dry climate, I think natural plant oils are important to take internally for glowing healthy skin. I like to add them to my smoothies and in my salads, along with hemp hearts for Omega 3 Fatty Acids and aloe vera juice. Living in Edmonton, I take a vitamin D supplement, and try to eat an abundance of dark leafy greens. I love simple warm lemon water and honey in the morning, and add organic turmeric or cayenne after dinner to aid in digestion, prevent inflammation and increase circulation.
What is the true essence of “Pura Botanicals”?
It’s about women taking care of women. We want you to deeply love yourself, and embrace your natural beauty. At the heart of Pura is the self-love ritual. Plant medicine is so powerful, and we use the most nutrient-rich, wild-harvested, and organic ingredients in all of our potions. There’s so much alchemic wisdom that goes into every bottle. Every process at Pura is done by hand. Our intention is that our will connect you to all things earthly and beautiful.
Name one muse that continues to inspire you?
Myrah, you inspire me always! You walk the walk, and truly live what you put out into the universe. I admire your vulnerability, authenticity and generosity of spirit. You’re always kind, and I think that is the most admirable quality in a human being.
What inspired you to create Pura Botanicals?
When I was pregnant with my first baby, I became ultra-sensitive to all of my conventional beauty products. The chemicals and synthetic ingredients used in these products can be so harmful and toxic, especially when we use them everyday, like most women. This was the beginning to creating my own collection I knew was truly pure, and would elevate my sense of wellness and beauty.
I’ve always been a keen student of nature, fascinated by earth’s medicine and its healing abilities. As a little girl, I was always mixing potions, and using my nose to process the world around me. At eighteen, I travelled to France and was captivated by perfuming and the power of scent. In my late twenties, I lived in Australia and studied aromatherapy and bush flower essences. When I think back, my life choices are all interconnected, even though I didn’t realize it at the time.
What does Aging Gracefully mean to you?
I think as women we need to really reprogram ourselves to accept and embrace the aging process. I don’t think I’ll ever be bashful about revealing my age, like so many were in my mother’s generation. Age is rich with clarity, wisdom and a sense of self that can only come with each passing year and wrinkle. Womanhood is an enthralling journey, a right of passage, and aging gracefully is something every generation of women collectively needs to embrace and flow with. Looking after ourselves spiritually and physically translates into timeless beauty. Our spirits are ageless.

Ohhh, that’s hard to pick just three… I can’t live without Pura’s Overnight Watermelon Mask, Botanical Bloom Essence, and the Countess Cleansing Nectar. I feel most radiant when I’m consistent with my skincare. I love the ultra-nourishing ingredients in these potions like natural silk-peptides, watermelon extract, neroli, sandalwood, calendula and coconut oil. My skin feels so healthy, soft and luminescent after using them in my morning and night rituals.
What are your rituals in regards to the New Moon and the Full Moon phases?
My Zodiac is Cancer, so the Moon has always had an effect on my energy. It amplifies whatever emotion is dominating my aura. So I especially pay close attention to my inner-thoughts and intentions around a New Moon. I always practice gratitude and use creative visualization to clear out what’s not serving me, and what I’d like to attract moving into the new phase.
What are you really excited about for 2016 and what were you grateful for in 2015?
For us, 2016 is about editing & enriching our life…what’s really important, what’s not. We’re focusing our energy on less, and nurturing what really fuels us. My husband also has his own business. It’s intense being your own ambassador all the time, but exciting and rewarding too. You’re always planting seeds and watching them grow- hoping you can bring them to fruition with a balance of fortitude and ease. It can be humbling and hypnotizing.
I feel 2016 is a year of coming together, abundant with collaborative energy, and a focus on community wellbeing. It’s about getting back to our roots, and clearing spiritual and physical clutter. I see everyone is searching more deeply for truth, and beginning to heal their most intimate relationships. I pray for this. I think this is the bud of all happiness and internal peace.
Instead of looking to global concerns I yearn to resolve, I’m trying to first pay attention to the worldly affairs of my own personal life. It can be a challenge to make powerful decisions that bring forth the light for the collective wellbeing of all. On behalf on the universe, I believe now is the time to come forth with our light. We can no longer wait for the world to change for us. We have to recognize the world exists within us. I’d love to see the world stop numbing through distraction and ‘being busy’ and actually start living. I have a tendency to get distracted too, and lose focus on the marrow of life that has more of an effect on me than I like to think… My inspiration is always returning back to LOVE as my guide.
For 2015- I’m always grateful for our three healthy, vibrant children… Motherhood is my greatest treasure. My husband is my rock, and our love is my island of reprieve and joy. I’m so happy my business, Pura Botanicals, is growing and inspiring others to pursue their dreams. I’m incredibly thankful I have a wonderful support network of friends and family, who allow me to be a co-owner and a mommy too. Sometimes, you just can’t have it all, and it feels chaotic and overwhelming, but some days it actually all jives. It’s kind of a miracle when it does. It’s such a fine, crazy, precious balance.
